Written while still sopping wet from a dip in the historic springs at the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs, At the Will McLean Festival 2008. we sang it in Tom Shed’s big top on the banks of the Withlacoochee. In one way or another, we still come to take the healing in White Springs. ACW: Guitar and vocal • Elisabeth Williamson: Banjo and vocals • Lon Williamson: Bass • Mindy Simmons: Vocals
In ancient times ancient peoples
Gathered here to find the healing
For their bodies and their spirits
In the waters of White Springs
They knew Mother Earth provided
Everything they'd need for living
And embraced the boundless power
Her pure and flowing water brings
Come take the waters
Come take the waters
Come take the waters
The waters of White Springs
Even the tribes of warring nations
Timicuan and Apalachee
Set aside their disagreements
And declared no fighting in this place
As they came to fill their pots
From either side of the Suwanee
They held these river waters sacred
Full of wisdom, full of peace
Come take the waters …
From beneath the mother limestone
Cool water greets the father sun
Rich with minerals and sulphur
Rich with history it comes
Hear the voices in the water
Hear the voices on the wind
They call us back to this river
To let it make us whole again
Now like the ones who came before us
We've gathered here to find the healing
For our bodies and our spirits
In the music of White Springs
We know harmony provides us
Everything we need for living
When we embrace the boundless power
Of the songs we come to sing
Come take the waters …
