Written on a rainy Florida Sunday, we set up to record this brand new one in the campground at Gamblefest, 2008. I circled up with Mindy, Jeanie and Clyde Walker to pick and sing - only to later discover both Clyde’s guitar and mine went to bad inputs on my old board. Back home, I racked up the tracks at Ron’s just to salvage an archival copy – and found the guitar in my vocal mic would suffice, though we bade farewell to Clyde’s track spoiled by the bad cord. And then we heard – the cicadas singing exactly with us … at full volume when we were, and then quieting down when we were a cappella, then singing even louder to finish the song. We didn’t mix it – Mother Nature did. So this is, in the best sense of the term, a “bonus track.” ACW: Guitar and vocals • Mindy Simmons: Vocals • Jeanie Fitchen: Vocals
When clouds pile up on the near horizon
When wind roars over the thirsty plain
Do not despair at the storms arising
For we are made of rain
We are made of rain
We are made of rain
Drop by drop of joy and of pain
We are made of rain
When you hear the rumbling of the thunder
When your feel your heart spin like a weathervane
Fling your arms wide to the coming wonder
For we are made of rain
We are made of rain…
Blue from the skies falls down into the rivers
Which flow through the land to the sea
There the sun warms the waves into mist as it shimmers
Into clouds riding breezes back to you and me
When your feel the waves rising right beside you
When you’re caught up in torrents of time and change
Life’s only filling the well inside you
For we are made of rain
We are made of rain…
